Fair use policy
Fair Use Policy – Hand-Built Ceramics: Create Your Own Vase
To ensure a supportive and equitable experience for all students, the following Fair Use Policy applies to the use of materials, tools, and studio resources during this course.
Clay
Each student is required to purchase a bag of clay for $30, which is expected to last the full 5-week course. If you require more clay, additional bags may be purchased directly from the instructor (subject to availability and cost).
Tools
All hand-building tools provided are to be used respectfully and shared equally among participants. Please clean tools after use and return them to their designated spots.
Underglazes & Glazes
A range of underglazes and glazes will be available for use during the final stages of the course. These are included in your course fee under a fair use policy. This means:
-
You are welcome to experiment and decorate your pieces creatively.
-
Please be mindful not to excessively overuse or waste glaze materials so they remain available to all.
-
If you're planning large or heavily glazed pieces, discuss with the instructor first to ensure there’s enough for everyone.
Firing
Firing costs are included in the course fee only for works created during class time.
-
Pieces made outside of class may be fired at the instructor’s discretion and will incur an additional cost.
-
Alternatively, students can be referred to local community kilns or firing services.
-
Each student may fire up to 2–3 vases depending on size. Larger or additional pieces may incur a fee—please speak with the instructor if you plan something ambitious.
In Summary:
This policy is designed to ensure:
-
Fair access to materials for everyone
-
Responsible and sustainable use of resources
-
A positive and respectful studio environment
If you have any questions or special project ideas, feel free to discuss them with Jasmine during class.
